My name is Erika Kirkham. Let me tell you how I became a breeder of the fabulous Pug! I obtained my first Pug 20 years ago and they have been my all time favorite breed ever since. My dad had been a reputable breeder of Australian Shepherds (back home in Ca.), and I have always loved our four-legged family members. I grew up caring for these beautiful big dogs and their adorable babies getting attached to each litter that was born.
Back to the Pug... When I was ready to purchase another Pug, I was astounded at the poor quality of many of the Pugs I had looked at not to mention the health issues I came across (like making them so small that they required frequent doses of corn syrup to keep their sugar levels up...these poor babies would actually pass out in your hand~) along with congenital lung problems, etc. Knowing that some people are going to continue breeding inferior animals, my family has chosen to attempt to bring back some integrity into the breed in our locale and abroad.
At LUVURPUG KENNELS, we breed firstly for the health of our babies. They aren't too small (in order to prevent the forementioned sugar-level issues), and their heads aren't "overdone" to the point that they'll require Mama to have a guaranteed C-section. It is my opinion that having a healthy Pug shouldn't be so much work! Parents are on heartworm preventative as well as frontline to prevent flea/tick spread diseases. Obviously, if you breed healthy parents, the liklihood of healthy babies is far better. The puppies' shot series begin at 6wks., end at 15 wks. (4 shots) with rabies being given (by a veterinarian) at 12 weeks. They may go to their new home between 8-12 wks. depending on overall maturity.
Aside from breeding for health, we breed for temperament. We want our babies to be well-adjusted and pleasant so that you can enjoy them. We would never breed an aggressive or overly timid animal so as not to pass those traits on to their pups. Lastly, we breed for body confirmation. We breed both AKC and CKC pugs (for more information on AKC, go to www.akc.org. For more information on CKC, go to www.continentalkennelclub.com.) We will breed animals that adhere to the confirmation standards as set by the American Kennel Club. No matter which registry option you choose, all puppies are raised with the same care and come with the same 1 year health guarantee.
We hope that you find many years of companionship with your new Pug if you choose to commit to buying one from us or another responsible breeder. Do your research and be picky. It does matter.
